A warm welcome to Alfie Cat's Guestbook, please leave us a message.

I started this website after adopting Alfie & Frankie both of whom have FIV in the hope that it will encourage those thinking of adopting an FIV infected cat & provide useful info.

My cat, Scooter, Was diagnised with FiV 6 years ago. This summer is the first time he has been unwell, and he is now 18 1/2 years old. I just wanted to point out his age to give some hope maybe to anyone who's just had their kittie diagnosed and are afraid of losing them early. Actually I had 4 cats, the mother and 3 kits. Scooter is the last to survive. Others died of cancer or kidney disease, they did not catch FiV.

Scooter currently is being treated with anti-biotics and decongestant as he seems to have bad cataarh, but he has had two complex-partial-seizures within two months, and so we are now worried that his trouble might be a tumour on the skull pressing onto the brain.

At his age we cannot risk putting him under to do an x-ray, so we have to just watch and pray.

Other than this, he is fine, has access to an enclosed garden, enjoys his tent and some catnip, and his favourite treat is crab paste, which I hide his medicine in (shhh.....)

Don't be scared to take in a FiV cat!!! You can see photo's of Scooter on my blog at http://sketchandcolour.blogspot.com

H guys, I work for Croydon Animal Samaritans - where Alfie originally came from.  I have an FIV cat that needs a new home.  Ginge is ginger, about 10 years old and has FIV.  Would anyone be willing to give him a home? Please call Lois on (020) 8647 7815

I have several cats right now and can't adopt more due to my apartment lease (I'm already over + I foster).  But I plan on taking in FIV or FeLK cats if I outlive my current cats, which are close to 10 years old.  I'm not a bit worried about adopting an FIV + cat.  Thanks for adopting yours. Lynn

I first heard of this illness on Monday this week. It is now Wednesday and nothing could be done after a blood transfusion to save him. I am now heartbroken and so very confused with this

I DO have an FiV cat, and he's bloody lovely! He's been here for 14 months, is about 3 years old, and is a black part-simaese so very vocal. I've never known a happier, more affectionate cat!

Have also done some "environmental enrichment" in the form of toys, ribbons, cat tree and feeding puzzle made out of cardboard tubes.
If you want a cat and don't have outdoor space, adopting an FiV is the perfect solution.

No
I don't have an FIV cat, but I wish I learnt about FIV before getting my two active bengals and restricting them to a house cat life!

Stories like Alfie's warm my heart.  Keep up the good work, and when it's time for the boys to be leaving me I'll definitely consider adopting FIV.

It is so refreshing to see eomeone with such a positive attitude to FIV cats (Or Fivs as we call them).  We currently have 5 little Fivs who are all stunning and looking for homes.  Despite all searching for homes since they were just 9 weeks old, all are now 7 months old and still in search of a forever home where they aill be loved.  All are happy and healthy; nobody could ever guess they were FIV+! I just wish more people understood FIV, as these little ones would surely have homes by now if only the condition was understood.

I had the privilege of sharing a part of my life with a Black and White Tomcat who was FIV positive and also called Alfie. He was my beautiful little tiger,(he thought he was a bear and often tried to chase the neighbours dogs, and he succeeded on occasion). He would chase my uncles Jack Russell any time it dared to come into my garden, and made that poor dog yelp.   He was a big fella weighing in at 7.5Kg and built like a bulldog. Alfie was diagnosed with FIV after being injured in a very bad fight with an infected feral cat in 2007.

Sadly, Alfie had to be euthanised after he fell gravely ill due to gum and respiratory problems from  FIV.  It was heartbreaking, but after 2 years with the Virus he had no fight left in him, which was so sad as he had always been such a feisty fella.  He died in my arms on 10.10.09 aged 9 years. I have made a small tribute video, which i have posted on youtube named " Alfie - A Tribute to My Furry Friend" in which I am sharing a few pics and clips of Alfie in hope to show what an absolute treasure he was. This quote rings so true  "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened". A lot of people do not understand this bond that can exist between humans and their furry companions, but the loss one feels at the passing of  our furry friends is very real.  Alfie was the second moggie that I have lost to FIV.  I lost Cuddles, (A  white female)  to FIV in 2004.  She was a beauty, and her name suited her perfectly, as she was always at her happiest when cuddling.  Cuddles was a real trooper and purred loudly right up to her last breath.  Please check out my vid on youtube, and let me know what you think.  I can highly recommend making a tribute vid for anyone who has lost their moggie, strangely it does help with the loss.

No, not that I know of but do not do routine testing for my six (rescued) cats and they would stay with me whatever!  Do support Catwork and recognise the ignorance from vets as well as potential owners regarding FIV cats.
All the very best to you and your beautiful cats.

Love your site. Will encourage people to look at it - am involved in cat rescue and welfare and of course come across FiV cats, people are very wary through their lack of knowledge of this illness, but this site is just what is needed to show that life does indeed go on despite such a diagnosis. Just adore Alfie and Frankie! keep up the good work! D
